HSPPR: Where Compassion Meets Complex Operations
In the world of animal welfare, every day is a mix of compassion and complexity. For the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), this couldn’t be more true. With a mission to serve multiple Colorado communities, HSPPR juggles animal sheltering, law enforcement, and veterinary services—all while managing a team of 255 dedicated staff. Like many nonprofits, they faced the challenge of keeping their operations running smoothly amid so many moving parts. Their mission demanded precision, but their operations needed structure to match their compassion.
That’s when they turned to systemHUB, a platform that would help them bring order to the chaos and achieve operational excellence.
Facing Change Resistance and Fragmented Systems
Change isn’t easy, and for HSPPR, the road to systemization came with its hurdles. Their standard operating procedures (SOPs) were scattered across different platforms, creating frustration for staff trying to access critical information. As Julie Justman, VP of Operations, put it: “We needed something simple and affordable that our team could pick up without a steep learning curve.” Beyond finding the right tool, they had to address staff resistance to change—a common struggle for organizations introducing new systems. Bringing together processes from diverse roles, like animal law enforcement and customer service, added to the challenge.
Building a Foundation for Sustainable Growth
To tackle these issues, HSPPR adopted systemHUB to centralize their SOPs and training resources. A dedicated team led the charge, standardizing and refining procedures to ensure consistency across their locations. Alex, their Professional Development Program Manager, played a key role in weaving systemHUB into onboarding and training, making sure new employees got up to speed quickly. By putting everything in one place, HSPPR made their processes not just easier to follow but also easier to embrace.
